[Chase/Foreman AU]

Chase knew that Foreman needed help with the Vicodin and that it would probably be time for another go -- seeing as he was getting accustomed to Vicodin cycles, what with House around -- and headed for the back room, checking to see if Foreman was still dozing.

He lingered in the doorway, just watching him. He seemed just so peaceful and he wondered how much had happened between them, how much Foreman knew about Chase that he didn't even know about himself.

Eventually, he cleared his throat quietly. "Foreman?"

"But you lost your relationship over it. Did it come down to picking sides or something?"

Foreman was still confused on how Chase's mom affected his romantic entanglements.

Chase shrugged, smiling blithely. "He couldn't get along with her. Mum comes first, still."

Foreman nodded.

"Yeah, I can see where she would be. She's your mom. Do you miss him?"

Chase quieted slightly and tugged the pillow to his chest, feeling very young. "We were together five months."

"And already engaged? Kinda quick, isn't it?"

He wasn't belittling the relationship, but trying to understand what would make Chase fall so fast. He was a hard guy to get to know.

"I knew him for two months before that. He was my best friend in this place," Chase laughed quietly. "He proposed after...a big thing that was...weird. Aphrodisiacs and all."

"Do you think you'll still be friends now? After the breakup?"

Foreman decided not to touch the aphrodisiacs thing.

"I hope so," Chase commented quietly, feeling all of twelve years old again. "But I don't know."

"Probably," Foreman mused. Chase was a nice enough guy.

"What's happened with House then?"

Chase grinned at that now, because this was going to be fun. "Oh, you know. This and that. Detox here, patient there, he's with Wilson."

Foreman rolled his eyes at that.

"Like none of us ever saw that coming."

"Pretty much," Chase agreed with a snort. "He's helping my ex give birth."

"Figures," Foreman snorted. "House always likes to get under your skin."

"Just like home," he remarked. "He and I...have gotten pretty close here, though."

Foreman lifted a brow, then realized he still had that damn head wound on his forehead.

"Ow. Anyway, what? House has feelings?"

Chase snorted. "No, he's the same as ever. He just...let me in, I guess. It took about four months."

"Let you in as in let you use your mouth for something other than insane theories?"

Foreman was still skeptical about House being emotionally open, despite that little tete-a-tete they'd had about pain.

Chase cleared his throat and ran a hand through his hair. "There might have been...a few incidents."

"Blow jobs, Chase," Foreman said pointedly. No sense in beating around the bush.

"Does this island make everyone sample the other side or something?"

"No," he disagreed easily. "No blowjobs." He was at least firm about that. "And...I was a little bit before, so, not in my case."

"Before? Did you ever think about me?"

Yeah, that was a stupid question, but Foreman was curious.

Chase stared at Foreman, gaping and stammering for a moment. "Well...yeah? Yeah," he confirmed. "I did."

"Huh." Foreman was going to need a minute to think that one over. Sure, he guessed he was attractive but he'd never guessed Chase was attracted to him.

"You hid it really well."

"I flirted with you," Chase laughed quietly, amazed that Foreman was really that oblivious about that. "Remember? Kid with the measles?"

"That was flirting? What did you say? I didn't even catch it," he confessed.
