Johnny stopped by the clinic mostly because he was bored.

And maybe because he was worried about Chase. Maybe. Deep down. Because they were friends, and Johnny cared about his friends.

He came up behind Chase, who was doing something doctor-ly, and stood there, amused at his concentration.

"Let me know when you find the lube," he smirked.

Chase jumped slightly, startled by the foreign voice and he chewed down harder on the pen, glancing over his shoulder to Johnny. He exhaled. "You scared me," he accused. He set down the charts and turned, confused. "You never come round the compound. What's going on?"

"What are you talking about? I'm always here." Johnny leaned back against one of the lab tables and smiled.

Okay, so he wasn't, but it's not like he wanted Chase to think he'd made a special trip or anything.

"Maybe I'm always sleeping or you're always invisible," Chase said dryly, smirking, hopping up onto the counter. "So, what's up that you came by the clinic?" His hair was shorter, at least, not falling in his eyes anymore.

"I have to have a reason to come see you now? I thought we were friends." Johnny eyed him reproachfully.

Chase grinned. "Nah," he accepted. "I just usually have to come to you if I want to see you." And considering the last time they talked, Chase had fallen asleep in Johnny's lap, well..."You want something to eat?"

Johnny grinned back. "Nah, I'm cool. How're you doing? Sleeping, I hope. You look...better."

Chase smiled at that. "Went into that coma thing. So, I pretty much caught up on sleep." He leaned back against the counter. "Got to see home again. And I made up with my mother, so that helped."

Right, coma thing. Johnny had woken up rested but fucking dehydrated. And starving. "Yeah? That's good. I went home too. With Yorick. Did Jay...?"

"Yeah, he came with," Chase acknowledged. "You get all homesick when you wake up, though? Hate the island even more just because it's...well, here?"

Johnny shrugged and rubbed the back of his neck. "The only thing I hate about the island is that it took my powers." And it was true. "And I feel kind of useless."

"I went from having a full hospital with MRI machine and all the drugs in the US at my disposal to..." He checked the inventory. "Sample jars and bandages. Not to mention, I miss privacy."

He shrugged. "I guess you have to take what you get, here."

"That's one way of putting it," Johnny said, and picked up a stethoscope that was lying nearby, fidgeting with it.

"You wouldn't miss this place at all?" he asked, peeking up at Chase from underneath his lashes.

Chase paused at that, having to think about it. "Of course I'd miss...you know, people," he protested with a scoff. "Maybe the ocean. Mostly people."

"Yeah," Johnny agreed, looking away carefully. "This place sucks. I mean it just...sucks. I hate camping. I hate 'roughing it'. But I wouldn't want to leave now. Not alone anyway."

"Well, you've got Yorick," Chase pointed out. "It'd hardly be good to just go back and be alone. I mean, back home, all I have is my job."

So, he supposed...

"I guess I do like it better here."

"You have a job here too," Johnny pointed out. "Granted, it's not as high tech as you're used to but dude. Do I have to remind you what I did for a living? You tell me where there's a need for a superhero with no powers or an ex-astronaut."

"My job here and there are...entirely different," Chase remarked, almost sadly and with a laugh. "This is...I'm slipping," he admitted honestly, looking up at Johnny. "With nothing to challenge me, I definitely think I'm slipping."

"And you're hardly the only one without something to do," Chase pointed out.

"Slipping how?" Johnny was genuinely curious. He put the ends of the stethoscope in his ears and waved Chase closer so he could put the other end on his chest.

Chase smirked and eased closer, sitting down beside Johnny and taking the stethoscope out of Johnny's ears, blowing on the end to warm it up and then replacing the earpieces. "Want I should get naked too?" he teased.

Johnny smirked. "Is that how you play doctor?"

He reached over and unbuttoned the top button of Chase's shirt.

Chase peered down, hair falling in his eyes as he reached down to undo the second button and push the fabric to the side slightly. He tapped just above his heart. "Right there."

Johnny breathed on the end of the stethoscope, mocking Chase a little, lips curled in a slight grin.

"Right there, hmm?" He reached over to press the end exactly where Chase said.

"Hey, cool," he said, face lighting up a little when he heard Chase's heartbeat.

Chase smirked at him -- but there was the hints of a genuine grin in there -- when Johnny mocked him and he sat there like a good patient.

He couldn't help but be amused when Johnny just lit up. "Will I make it, Dr. Storm?"

"Dr. Storm's my dad," Johnny said, moving the stethoscope over Chase's skin in a completley not-doctorly way. "I used to steal his stethoscope and play doctor with the neighborhood girls." He flashed Chase a quick grin. "And boys."
