[for Johnny]

Chase was in the clinic, taking a new inventory. Now that Foreman was there and another doctor named Beckett, apparently, it was probably for the best they have an updated count. There was a woman named Claire Fraser that he really should meet, considering so many files had her name on them, but he was in and out.

Currently, he was chewing on the end of a pen, cupboards open and mentally counting how many samples jars were in there along with bandages.

Chase turned around at the light barrage. "Someone might need those one day, you know. To...clean their...ears."

Johnny's eyebrows went up, all innocence. "Then stop making me talk to the back of you. Your ass isn't that cute."

"I've heard otherwise," he said thoughtfully, hopping up on the counter again, facing Johnny. "Okay, so. I assume you and Yorick are still blissfully wonderful together?"

"Better than ever," Johnny replied. "I took him to meet Robb's family for Rickon's birthday--before the whole coma thing. It was like. Our first public date. Kind of weird, but still. He offered to give Bran his helper monkey. To a kid he'd just met. Is that not awesome?" It was hard being in a relationship with the sweetest man alive sometimes.

Chase smiled at that. "I didn't know he had a monkey," he laughed. "And yeah, that's pretty awesome."

"Yeah, from his own world. Ampersand. He was training him to be a helper monkey or something back home and it's like...he's so selfless. He's so fucking good." Johnny sighed. "He makes me feel like a selfish bastard most of the time."

"Johnny," he began simply. "Advice from a selfish bastard? Just go with it and enjoy it for what it is. Trust me."

Johnny snorted, because trusting Chase is what got him into this mess in the first place. "Hey. Guess what I found in the games closet."

"Games?" Chase yielded a wild guess.

"You so lose at this game," Johnny replied, unimpressed. "A volleyball. For beach volleyball. Two of them, actually."

Chase's eyes lit up. "Really?" God, to have something to do again. "That's great."

"Yeah, but there's one catch," Johnny said, eyeing Chase with a smirk. "There's no net."

Chase shrugged. "You can still pepper."

Johnny snorted. "Dude. Volleyball is meant to be played with a net. Peppering is so not fun all the time."

Chase smirked at that. "So we'll build a net out of...trees and, god, I don't know, ugly 80's clothes."

"Now that's more like it," Johnny grinned. "C'mon. Let's go raid the laundry room. If we're lucky maybe they'll be some mesh or something."

"You mean you won't wear it?" Chase teased, pushing off the table and pushing up his sleeves. "You're robbing me of my Miami Vice here, Johnny."

Johnny rolled his eyes. "That is so before my time, dude. God, you're old."

"I was born in '78!" he protested.

"Oh my god! You're three years older than me! You were a senior when I was a freshman." Johnny shuddered dramatically.

Chase grinned a little at that, heading down the stairs to the basement. "I was probably graduated. I finished high school at sixteen."

Johnny followed. "Oh, aren't we so smart," he said dryly. "And then what did you do? Right. Join a monestary. Maybe not so smart."

"Went into seminary for eight months," he agreed. "And then went into pre-med. Graduated med school at 23, internship and residency done by 25, specialized by 26."

"People like you make me sick," Johnny commented, but it was obvious he didn't mean it at all.

He started poking through the laundry box, looking for trashy mesh-y things to make a net. "All I did was join NASA at age 23."

Chase shrugged, digging through the box. "I didn't really do much. Just went to school. Then went straight into a job."
