Chase was in the clinic, taking a new inventory. Now that Foreman was there and another doctor named Beckett, apparently, it was probably for the best they have an updated count. There was a woman named Claire Fraser that he really should meet, considering so many files had her name on them, but he was in and out.

Currently, he was chewing on the end of a pen, cupboards open and mentally counting how many samples jars were in there along with bandages.

Chase shrugged, digging through the box. "I didn't really do much. Just went to school. Then went straight into a job."

"You've never taken any time off before?" Johnny eyed him, and held up what looked to be a swimsuit cover-up. Or bad lingerie. "No wonder you're going nuts."

Chase snorted. "I took vacations." Except that he didn't, really. When he supposedly went to Switzerland, he was off writing some articles at home for money and reputation, holed up in his apartment.

"Yeah? To where? How many years ago?" Chase was such a bad liar. Almost as bad as Johnny, or maybe worse because he didn't know he was a bad liar.

Chase just shrugged. "Switzerland." He actually had gone there. Just, for a conference.

Johnny pitched a zebra-print miniskirt in Chase's face. "You are so bad at this."

Chase took the skirt and stared at it in confusion. "I did go to Switzerland! I got to ski in the Alps."

"Maybe. But not on vacation." Johnny held up a bright yellow bikini top and grinned. "Should save this for Veronica."

Chase studied the yellow of the bikini. "With her skin tone?" He winced. "I doubt it. Speaking of her, though. You seen her lately?"

"Skin tone? How gay are you, Chase?" Johnny eyed him, amused. "And no. I haven't seen her in...weeks. Saw her at the party. Sort of. Didn't get a chance to talk to her, though."

"I was going to throw another party," he said, off-handedly, digging through the box. "And anyone knows that pale skin and that yellow don't go."

"When's the next surf club meeting?" he wondered.

"Whenever." Johnny shrugged. "A party, hmm? Celebrating what?" He added an ugly lacy thing to the pile of net-materials.

"Not so much celebrating," Chase clarified. "Just sort of...trying to distract everyone from the fact that they just went home and had to come back. I figure some kind of beach thing. Luau."

Johnny nodded. He didn't hate being back, per se. But he could see why other people wanted distraction. "The cove would be nice. Pool party, you know? Swimsuits. Limbo. Volleyball..."

Chase glanced to Johnny, grinning. "Are we actually planning a party?"

Johnny eyed him back. "Hey, you brought it up." He found a tutu-type skirt and grinned. "I think that's enough netting-mesh type stuff. Right?"

Chase snorted, but yanked the skirt and nodded. "I think so. I don't know, I want to throw a party. You up for it if I had it by the beach?"

"I'm always up for a party," Johnny replied, cocky posture returning. "Just tell me the date and the time and I'll be there. With bells on."

Chase grinned. "All right," he said, a little more eager. "I was going to put up an invitation notice on the board. A...'welcome back to the island' and a 'summer kickoff' thing? Invite anyone who knows you or me?"

That was probably most of the island.

Johnny eyed Chase. "Chase. The first rule when planning a party is to know your resources. Do you have enough food and alcohol for the entire island? Do you even have enough food and alcohol for all the people you've messed around with?"

Chase gave Johnny a glance. "Well, you didn't come to my last party..." So you wouldn't know.

He shrugged. "Maybe I'll put it off."

Wow, Johnny walked right into that one. Another Chase landmine. And he'd been doing so good too.

"Hey, I meant to show. I just got distracted." He took the pieces of clothing they'd gathered and then nudged Chase with his foot. "Ok?"

Chase shrugged. "Like I've said. I got pretty drunk and left pretty early. I don't care."

"Bullshit." Johnny sighed. God, he hated being monogamous sometimes. His life would be so much easier if he could just plant one on Chase and tell him to shut up.

He settled on the latter.

"Shut up," he said, rolling his eyes. "You are such a fucking drama queen sometimes, you know that? I'm sorry I missed your party. I didn't want to. And before you start thinking that that means I don't like you or we're not friends allow me to point out that I hiked five miles from the Hummer to the Compound just to see you today. God."

Chase just glanced up at Johnny, feeling mildly chastened and then confused. "You came all the way up here to see me?"

Though, he'd jogged that distance many times just to see Johnny before, though he wouldn't admit.
