Chase was exhausted, another day done and he really just wanted to fall asleep. He stumbled into the small medical quarters and found Jay already asleep in their bed. He sighed and pushed in alongside him, leaving him enough room. There, lying down, he took a deep breath and was already asleep the moment his head hit the pillow.

Chase regarded her with sickening fear. "What...what are you doing?" he remarked, scared.

"It's never easy," said Julia. "But now I know you get it. And you know you get it. Someday, even he'll get it. We're going now."

And with that, the water beneath Joshua's body was regular water, and they splashed through and were lost beneath the surface.

Chase woke with a start, gasping loudly and clasping his arm, the pain still there. He was sweating and he sat up slowly, barely breathing.

"Hey," murmured Jay, sitting up as well. "What's wrong?" Sleepily, he wrapped his arms around Chase.

Chase relaxed back into Jay's arms. "Nightmare," he confessed quietly, shaking slightly.

And to think Jay'd been having a good dream for once, too.

He pressed careful kisses to each of Chase's cheeks and then his forehead, his nose, his lips. "It's okay, I'm here."

Chase exhaled slowly. "I saw...you were there. But you were...dead."

"I'm fine now," Jay assured him. He pulled Chase's hand to his chest, over his heart. "See?"

Chase exhaled shakily, feeling the heartbeat and letting out a small, choked cry. "She was...fuck," he cursed. "Felt so real."

"Shhh," Jay murmured, stroking his hair. "What happened? Tell me."

"Julia was in my dream," he said, voice hoarse. "She took me to see you, but you were dead."

"Julia?" murmured Jay. "I... I just dreamed about her too... I don' get it. Sounds like yours was worse, though." He pulled Chase closer.

He rubbed at his arm, where she had been grabbing so hard. "Shook me up," he admitted.

"What'd she say to you?" asked Jay, already angry at the dead ex-girlfriend who was a dream or a ghost or some shared hallucination.

His voice was hoarse when he found it. "She said I'd stolen you."

Jay frowned, easing them both back down to the bed. "Stole me? Naw, if anything, I stole you."

Chase gratefully went back to the touch, keeping his voice down so as not to wake up Cameron or Dr. Andrej. "Asked...asked why I should get you."

"That wasn't very nice of her," murmured Jay, stroking Chase's side. "What'd you say?"

"Told her I fixed you up," he mumbled, shifting so that his arms were wrapped around Jay, conserving the space on the bed. "That she wasn't right to do what she did."

"How'd she take it?" questioned Jay. This was weird as hell.

"Honestly? Rather well," he confessed, burrowing his face into Jay's neck, hair falling all over his eyes. He sighed. "I need a haircut."

Jay grinned, despite himself. "She was pretty decent in my dream, y'know. I wish she hadn't scared you so bad." He kissed the corner of Chase's mouth. "She said she liked you. Which means either we're hallucinatin' together, or she's hauntin' me, or... I dunno. Our brains are tryin' to make a point."

Chase just snorted. "I'm dwelling on whether a ghost likes me."

"...do you really think she's a ghost?" whispered Jay.

"What?" Chase frowned, shaking his head. "Well, no...ghost...memory. Something."
