Occasionally, Chase loathed the island. Usually when he found himself elsewhere, he really hated it. He supposed that it wasn't so bad this time around. He was in his own body, Nate was safe, and only the Doctor was being inhabited by someone else, who was actually pretty nice. He definitely recalled a couple times too many in which that wasn't the case.

Still, it meant that there was a lot of madness to deal with and a lot of after-effect that spilled in later and he didn't exactly love that. While the woman in the Doctor's body was taking care of Nate, Chase was taking a walk to try and clear his head. Plus, at some point, he really did want to actually find the Doctor. Losing one's spouse wasn't exactly carved in the manual of good marriages.

"Well, and since he seemingly has an anger complex and one hand, I don't think we ought to be doing anything to piss him off in the meantime," Chase said, considering he could hold out on physical contact for a couple of days while everything got put right. Especially for the sake of keeping everything where it belonged.

"Dude, he's totally not any more angry than I am," said the Doctor, looking faintly bemused, trying not to go hug Chase, though at the same time, the thought of doing so was sort of weird in ways that made his stomach itch. "I'm just all good at hiding."

"And you married the prince of repression," he scoffed in a deadpan, arching his brow and almost daring the Doctor to say otherwise. "God help Nate growing up and let's just hope he knows how to express a feeling."

"I'm not gonna lie, man." The Doctor crossed his arms over his chest, then shook his head. "But seriously, with his biological parents, little guy's an open book, you know?"

He winked at Chase.

"Oh god, you're being terrifying," he said bluntly, feeling his own chill go down his spine at a wink like that. It unnerved him and made him pray that everything would go back to normal really fucking soon. "Don't. Don't do that."

"Do what?" The Doctor looked shiftily from side to side, though he honestly had no idea what the hell he had done, but obviously Chase thought he was nuts or something. "It's not like I fuckin' like this."

"No, I know," Chase promised, though he still sounded slightly discomfited by the whole situation. "It's more just the winking thing. It's really kind of weird when it's not you."

"What kind of winking thing?" The Doctor looked skeptical at the very idea. "Shit, have I gone around winking at people? Man, that totally fucking would creep everyone out, ew."

"Well, I mean, maybe it's just the way your face is? His face is," he corrected himself before he could let that go on too much longer. "Do you want to maybe just go visit Nate? At least we can keep him company and it'll be fairly innocent. Right?" He hoped, at least.

"I saw him earlier, I think he's scared of me or something." The Doctor blinked innocently, swallowing and rocking back and forth a little on the balls of his feet. "I don't know, am I that scary, Rob?"

"Maybe a little offputting," he conceded, not wanting to lie about it. "I mean, I wouldn't really want to spend a couple days with you like this? I could probably do a couple hours. That's just very much not my type," he said, clearing his throat and trying to make that sound like it was the truth, like he didn't sometimes like men like that.

"Dude, I don't even want to spend a couple days with me like this." The Doctor gave Chase a bit of a look. "Hell, I'd drink myself under the table if I didn't think this guy would come and kick my ass when he wakes up with a hangover..."

He paused, lifting a brow. "You DO like assholes sometimes, though."

"Only sometimes," he protested, and doing a half-assed job of it considering that a couple of his previous boyfriends had definitely not been saints of any nature, but he had still loved them. "And you're not an asshole?" he floated the notion.

"I never said I wasn't, yo." The Doctor looked smug and crossed his arms, even though one of his hands wasn't real and that was just so weird, man. "So don't be all saying you don't like assholes!"

Chase was still having that strange out-of-body experience in which he was vaguely scarred by all of this. He just eyed the Doctor warily and gave a hasty "...oookay," while knowing that yes, he might like assholes, but it wasn't like they were like that all the time.

"What?" asked the Doctor. "You're giving me that look, I fucking hate it when you give me that look, it's like you're gonna have me committed."

The sentence had started in his head as You know, I hate that look like you're going to section me. The problem was that he barely noticed the difference.

"Well, at this point in time, it's less committed and more going to try and find someone who knows this guy and speaks his language," Chase deadpanned, but there was a slightly worried countenance to his face. "You'll be normal eventually, no cause for committing."

"You even give me that look when I'm fucking normal," the Doctor said, or maybe it was more like 'whined'. He caught himself at it and looked slightly stunned. "Oh god, what the fuck is wrong with me?"

"You're young, not yourself, and giving in to the personality," Chase appraised, sounding a lot more professional than he might have if this were four years ago when it was happening for the first time. "But it will pass. It always does."

"It better. I'm sick of this shit." The Doctor wasn't sure how exactly he was supposed to fight this personality, man. He took a sip from the juice he'd brought with him, and pondered Chase from over the cup.

"After being here nearly five years, trust me, I'm sick of it too," he promised, reaching out awkwardly and not knowing what to do exactly, so instead of giving the Doctor's cheek a light touch, he balled up his fist and offered a friendly punch to the arm.

Oh, god, he was crap at this.
