Homeplot: The Church

Chase hadn't intended for this side trip, but after the conversation in bed, he had grabbed his keys and toyed with the idea of leaving the Doctor in bed to rest, but that meant spending time apart and with everything...he wasn't sure he wanted to do that. But it was a church and not just any church, but St. Patrick's Cathedral was more than just any church.

He went back and forth, changing his mind about a dozen times before getting on his best churchwear and standing in the door to the bedroom.

"Doctor?" he prodded, very quietly. "Wake up?"

Chase just shook his head, a bemused smirk on his lips as he finished up the drive, feeling all kinds of exhausted. After so many months on the island, just the commute and the dating and the restaurants and work had sapped all of his energy.

"Just pointing out the obvious," he said, turning off the car and popping the trunk.

The Doctor, who had totally finished the can of Coke by then, fed Chase another gummi bear, then slid out of the car. "Wow," he said, blinking a few times. "I think you're right. Dear god, I feel like I'm going to bounce all the way into the house. This means I'll crash like mad, won't it."

But he was helpful with the bags, of course.

Chase gave a laugh, lazy and tired, as he watched the Doctor. "Go ahead and bounce," he allowed, picking up the last of the bags and locking up before heading inside, making a mental checklist of everything he had left to do.

The Doctor bounced. Right onto the sofa, where he proceeded to do things to a strawberry Twizzler that were probably illegal in some places.

Chase closed the door behind him, frozen in place watching the Doctor with wide eyes and okay, just a little jealous of the candy. "What are you doing?" he asked warily, taking off his hat and hanging it up on the coatrack with his sweatervest.

"Eating," the Doctor said simply. He started in on another Twizzler. There was only so much he could think about that letter without feeling like his chest was seizing up with need.

"You're fellating it," he accused mildly, heading to the open-concept kitchen, where he could still see the Doctor. "You're...you're practically giving it its last sexual go."

"Might as well make it happy in its last moments of life," the Doctor said. "Would you rather I had something else?"

Chase shook his head, turning to the fridge. "No," he said fondly. "No, you should have that." He put away some of the things they had bought before heading to the couch and flopping down, resting his head tiredly in the Doctor's lap.

The Doctor managed to stroke Chase's hair slowly with one hand and munch candy with another. He fed Chase another gummi bear, almost lovingly.

"I'm going to choke on one of these," he warned, knowing his windpipe was at a dangerous angle, but he grinned anyway and swallowed the candy, giving a tired groan and shifting to curl up on one side, head against the Doctor's stomach.

"Don't worry, I'd save you." The Doctor ran his fingers through Chase's hair and munched on some chips (crisps, whatever). He finished his second soda. "You look tired."

"I'm exhausted," Chase freely admitted, closing his eyes and just shifting to get comfortable, until his head was on the Doctor's thigh. "I swear," he mumbled, sleepily, "if you have grease on your fingers and it's going in my hair there will be arguing."

"One hand for crisps, other hand for hair." The Doctor smiled fondly at Chase. He was being good and not even making any 'while you're down there' jokes. "Take a nap, I'll wake you up in a couple of hours and feed you junk."

"You mean like the lies about how you think I look good in what I wear?" he mumbled tiredly, eyes falling blearily shut. "Because I know they're lies, you lying liar full of lies."

"I have no idea what you're talking about," the Doctor said, but there was a smile in his tone and he kept stroking his hair.

"So many lies," he mumbled as he drifted off to sleep, shifting and kicking slightly in his sleep as he fell into a light sleep and started talking about the teddy bear and the Doctor and a narrative about the ring being missing.

The Doctor merely listened and tried really hard not to laugh. He chewed on his lower lip and kept on eating and gently holding Chase's head, putting the telly on mute and...oh, for fuck's sake, it was himself.

Chase took a long time in his dreams, curling up even tighter into the comforting and warm touch and the familiar smells of home, the soap and the way the Doctor smelled like the ocean and a bit like incense and just him and he groaned, turning into the warmth as his dreamscapes shifted and he started mumbling on about the magic potion.

Fortunately the bit on the telly was just himself and Rose meeting up with Jack, which was a story the Doctor knew by hearts. So he listened to Chase and occasionally softly commented back about what Chase should do with the potion. It was terribly sweet.

Chase woke with a start after he dreamt that he had drank the potion and grown fifty feet, giving a suspicious look around the room, gaze bleary and fuzzy.

The Doctor gently patted his head. "It's all right," he said, thoughtfully, still watching the bloody creepy kids with gasmasks.

Chase groaned and resumed his favourite of the positions, curled up with the Doctor, eyes still half shut and happy to be that way. "Think I ought to move," he mumbled, words sticking together.

"Move?" the Doctor asked, bending down and brushing a kiss, just once, across his forehead.

Chase grumbled as he slowly pulled himself up into a sitting position and nodding, feeling so damn old, like he couldn't take a day of stimulation as he wandered haphazardly into the bedroom.
